The B&R EtherNet/IP bus controllers allow connecting X20-, X67-, and XV-I/O modules to EtherNet/IP. I/Os will be automatically configured with default module functionality. Additional module functions can be obtained by using B&R's FieldbusDESIGNER, which offers an intuitive and comfortable interface. This tool features a comprehensive help system giving easy access to first-time B&R users; it can be downloaded for free (www.br-automation.com/designer).
FieldbusDESIGNER creates configuration files, outputs details on I/O mapping and even complete projects for programming environments giving convenient access to user defined I/O data points instead of just byte arrays.
The bus controller's vendor-specific classes provide access to important module information such as serial number, firmware versions, and model number as well as changing I/O configuration during runtime.
The X20 controller has a width of a mere 37.5 mm. Made up of a base module, a supply module to supply voltage for the entire system, and a fieldbus interface, the bus controller is an extremely flexible fieldbus connection. The entire bus-independent backplane can be preinstalled. Pre-wiring is also possible thanks to removable terminals. Two RJ45 interfaces allow economical daisy chain wiring.
